Why listings use a white background for photos

Most marketplaces prefer plain white for the main image. On a results page full of thumbnails, white is what lets a shopper compare the products themselves instead of whatever each seller had behind them. It also hides the clutter of a shoot done on a desk, a bedsheet or a windowsill.

Every marketplace publishes its own rules for main images, and the rules change. Check the current requirements for Amazon, Etsy, Shopify, eBay and Walmart before you upload a batch.

How to create a white background for photos in bulk

    1. Add the photosDrag in a whole folder or pick files: JPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC straight off a phone. Up to 40 per batch on the free plan.
    2. The AI cuts each product outThe first run takes a little longer to get ready, then each photo takes a few seconds.
    3. Each result lands on plain whiteThe output above is already set to White background JPG, so every cut-out is placed on a flat white fill.
    4. Check, touch up, downloadOpen Touch up (the pencil button) on any card to erase leftovers or restore a part the AI cut off, then download each JPG.

Shoot for the cut-out, not for the background

The AI decides where the product ends, so give it something to see. A white mug on a white table leaves it almost nothing to separate. Shoot light products on a darker surface and dark ones on a lighter one: the final JPG is white either way.

Keep the whole product in frame with a little air around it, and keep the edges sharp. Soft edges make soft cut-outs. Glass and fine fur are the hard cases, so plan to run the brush over those. Shot on a white backdrop that came out light gray? Here's why, and how to check for pure white.

    White JPG or transparent PNG?

Pick the JPG when a marketplace or an ad platform wants a flat white image. It's small and opens anywhere. Pick the transparent PNG when you'll place the product on your own backgrounds, a banner or a slide, or when you haven't decided yet. You can always add white later; you can't get transparency back out of a JPG.

The Output menu switches at any time, and the images already in the batch are saved again in the new format without running the AI a second time.

    Marketplace sizes

Pro costs $29 once. It centers each cut-out on a white canvas sized for Amazon, Etsy, Shopify, eBay and Walmart, lowers the JPEG quality when a file would go over the size limit, and adds bulk rename and ZIP download. The pricing page has the full list. The white JPG itself stays free.

Photographing a logo or a signature on white paper instead? Remove the white by color and keep thin lines intact.

    Your photos are never uploaded

Nothing is sent to a server. Unreleased products and client shoots stay with you, and closing the tab clears them.

    FAQ

    Is the background pure white?

Yes. The area around the product is filled with pure white (#FFFFFF) before the JPG is saved. JPEG compression can shift a few pixels along the product's edge by a shade, which is normal for the format.

What if the cut-out misses part of the product?

Click the pencil (Touch up) button on the photo. The brush erases leftover background and restores any part the AI cut away, and then the white JPG is rebuilt from your fix. The brush is free, like everything on this page.

    Is it free?

Yes. Up to 40 images per batch, as many batches as you like, with no sign-up and no watermark. Pro adds marketplace sizes, bulk rename and ZIP download.
