Remove White Background

Drop in a logo, signature or scan on white paper and download a transparent PNG. It keys out the white by color, so thin lines survive.

When to remove white by color

The tool above is set to the white method. It turns every near-white pixel transparent and keeps everything darker. It's a simple color rule, so there's no wait to get ready, it works in any current browser, and each image takes a moment.

That suits flat artwork on a white background: logos, signatures, stamps, scans of drawings, line art, icons. A pen stroke one pixel wide survives, because nothing is deciding what counts as an object, only color.

Photos are different. A product or a person has shadows, gradients and white parts of its own, and a color key can't tell a white shirt from a white wall. For photos, set Cut-out to the AI option.

    Set the white tolerance

White tolerance (12 by default, up to 40) sets how far from pure white a pixel can be and still count as paper. A scan of white paper is rarely pure white, and JPG compression leaves faint noise, so the default clears normal paper and leaves a soft edge on the strokes.

Raise it if shadows, grey scan edges or specks remain. Lower it if pale ink or thin light lines start to fade. The slider re-processes every image in the batch when you let go, so you can adjust with the results in view. The touch-up brush deals with whatever is left.

    JPG in, transparent PNG out

Logos and scans usually arrive as JPG, and a JPG can't be transparent. Drop it in anyway: the tool reads the pixels, removes the white and saves a PNG, with "-nobg" added to the file name.

Edge pixels are cleaned of the white they picked up from the paper, so the ink doesn't carry a pale halo when you place the PNG on a dark or colored background. Set Output to White background JPG if you want the paper back.

    Your files are never uploaded

Signed scans and company stamps are sensitive. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab clears the images.

Making product photos white instead? The white background tool does that in bulk.

    FAQ

Why did part of my logo disappear?

The white method makes every white pixel transparent, including white letters or shapes inside the artwork. Open Touch up (the pencil button) on the image and paint those areas back with the Restore brush. They return as solid white.

Can I use it on a photo with a white background?

It works when the background is flat, evenly lit white, as in many studio shots. Shadows under the product stay, and white parts of the product go transparent. For ordinary photos, switch Cut-out to the AI option, or use the bulk tool on the home page.

    Is it free?

Yes. Up to 40 images per batch with no sign-up and no watermark, and you can start a new batch as often as you like.
