Walmart Product Images on a White Background

Walmart wants the main image on seamless white, 255/255/255 RGB, square at 2200×2200 pixels and 5MB or less. A backdrop that looks white on set rarely reads 255 in the file. Drop the shoot below and every background comes back pure white, with no watermark.

Free or Pro for Walmart photos

On the free plan, the background turns white on every photo, up to 40 per batch, with no sign-up and no watermark. Each photo keeps its own size and framing.

Pro, $29 once, adds the Walmart listing 2200×2200 output. Each photo is cropped to the product and centered on a white 2200×2200 canvas with a 3% margin on every side, so the product reaches 94% of the width or height. It's saved as a JPG kept under 5 MB, and the batch downloads as one ZIP, renamed for your SKUs. See pricing.

What can't go on a Walmart main image?

Besides the white background, Walmart's guidelines rule out watermarks, your name and your logo on the main image, along with accessories that don't come with the item, too many props, claims or promotional language, and the logo or name of Walmart or any other retailer. Images should be in focus, professionally lit and in English.

A cut-out on plain white covers most of that on its own: the props, the table and the room behind the product are gone. Text and logos printed on the product itself stay, because they are part of the item. If a photo shows an accessory that isn't in the box, open Touch up (the pencil button) and erase it before you download.

How close should the product be cropped?

As close as possible, with no excessive background around the item, Walmart says. The Walmart preset crops each cut-out to the product and leaves a 3% margin on every side, so the product reaches 94% of the width or height of the 2200×2200 canvas.

Walmart also asks you not to resize smaller images to fill space, because enlarging lowers quality. Shoot so the product covers most of the frame, and keep the original at least 1500 pixels on its long side, the minimum Walmart sets for zoom. A small product in the middle of a wide photo has to be enlarged to fill the canvas, and that's where it goes soft.

File names for a batch upload

Walmart recommends the item's 14-digit GTIN in the file name. If your photos are already named by GTIN, Pro's bulk rename keeps the original name and adds a suffix you choose, so the GTIN carries through to the ZIP. For the rest of the listing, Walmart recommends at least four images; shoot them in one session and they come back on the same white. More on getting a clean result in the white background guide.

    FAQ

Does Walmart require a white background?

For the main image, yes. Walmart's image guidelines ask for a seamless white background, 255/255/255 RGB, and say main images should feature items on it. Larger items may be shown in an expected environment. The other images in a listing don't have to be on white.

What size should Walmart product images be?

2200×2200 pixels, square, at 5MB or less, in JPEG, JPG, PNG or BMP. Walmart sets 1500×1500 as the minimum for zoom and doesn't accept GIF. Pro's Walmart preset saves every photo as a 2200×2200 JPEG on white, kept under 5 MB.

How many images should a Walmart listing have?

Walmart recommends at least four images per listing. A free batch here holds 40 photos, so a few listings fit in one batch, and you can run as many batches as you like.

    Is it free?

White and solid-color backgrounds are free for up to 40 photos per batch, with no sign-up and no watermark. Pro, $29 once, adds the 2200×2200 Walmart size, bulk rename and one ZIP per batch.
