eBay Photo Background Removal

eBay recommends photos about 1600×1600 and says white backgrounds are generally best. A kitchen counter or a bedsheet behind the item says secondhand before the buyer reads a word. Drop your photos below and each one comes back on white, with no watermark.

Free or Pro for eBay photos

On the free plan, the background turns white on every photo, up to 40 per batch, with no sign-up and no watermark. Each photo keeps its own size and framing.

Pro, $29 once, adds the eBay listing 1600×1600 output. Each photo is cropped to the product and centered on a white 1600×1600 canvas with a 5% margin on every side, so the product reaches 90% of the width or height. It's saved as a JPG kept under 12 MB, and the batch downloads as one ZIP, renamed for your SKUs. See pricing.

Jewelry and shiny items: when white isn't best

eBay makes an exception to its white advice: for shiny or reflective items like jewelry, a darker background may work better. Silver, chrome and glass pick up their surroundings, and on white they can wash out to the same pale gray as the background.

Choose Solid color in the Output menu and pick a dark shade. It's free and applies to the whole batch, and changing it later re-saves the photos without cutting them out again. Keep it plain: eBay's picture policy rules out added borders, text, artwork and watermarks.

A full set of listing photos in one batch

An eBay listing takes up to 24 photos: front, back, labels, flaws, scale. Shoot them all against whatever is handy, drop the folder in and they come back on the same background. More on getting a clean result in the white background guide. For used or damaged items, eBay doesn't allow stock photos, so photos of the actual item, cleaned up, are what the listing needs.

    FAQ

Does eBay require a white background?

No. eBay says white backgrounds are generally best, and that a darker background may work better for shiny or reflective items like jewelry. What eBay's picture policy does forbid is added borders, text, artwork, marketing material and watermarks.

What size should eBay photos be?

eBay asks for at least 500×500 pixels and recommends about 1600×1600, at up to 12MB per photo. Square 1:1 and wide 16:9 photos look best in listings and search results. Pro's eBay preset saves every photo at 1600×1600.

How many photos can an eBay listing have?

Up to 24, and at least one. A free batch here holds 40 photos, enough for a full listing with room to spare, and you can run as many batches as you like.

    Is it free?

White and solid-color backgrounds are free for up to 40 photos per batch, with no watermark, which matters on eBay because watermarks are not allowed. Pro, $29 once, adds the 1600×1600 eBay size, bulk rename and one ZIP per batch.
