A remove.bg Alternative for Batches of Product Photos

remove.bg's standalone website closes on December 1, 2026. If you used it to clear folders of product photos, you can keep doing that here without an account or credits. Drop the folder in below.

What happens on December 1, 2026

remove.bg's FAQ says the standalone website "will no longer be available from 1 December 2026 at 9:00am CET" and that its background removal is moving to Canva. For anyone who used the website, three things follow:

For bulk work, remove.bg points people to Canva's bulk background removal, or to Leonardo.Ai's API for larger volumes. Both mean signing in to another service. If you'd rather not, or your product photos shouldn't leave your computer, the tool above takes 40 photos per batch free and never uploads them. Facts checked on November 4, 2026.

If you used the remove.bg API

According to remove.bg's API page, from December 1, 2026 "background removal moves to Leonardo.Ai, also part of Canva." Developers who call the API switch to a Leonardo.Ai key, and Leonardo's migration guide lists background removal at USD $0.1047 per image.

At that rate, 1,000 images cost about $104.70. If those images are your own product shoots, run by hand a batch at a time, that's money spent on plumbing you don't need.

Pro's $29 is about what 280 images cost at the per-image rate above, and then it doesn't run out. Prices were checked on October 4, 2026. They change, so check both before you decide.

When an API is still the right call

Stay with an API if photos reach you without a person in the loop: a store app that cuts out every upload, a script that runs overnight, a catalog feed. This tool has no API. It's for the person sitting in front of a folder of photos.

    Moving a batch workflow over

    1. Put the shoot in one folderJPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC straight off an iPhone. Drop the folder on the tool above, up to 40 photos per batch free.
    2. Pick the output onceTransparent PNG, white JPG or a solid color. Changing it later re-saves the batch without cutting the photos out again.
    3. Check the edgesOpen Touch up (the pencil button) on any card to erase leftover background or restore what was cut off.
    4. DownloadSave each file, or with Pro take the batch as one ZIP, renamed for your SKUs and sized for Amazon, Etsy, Shopify, eBay or Walmart. See pricing.

Need transparent PNGs specifically? The PNG background remover explains why a JPG can't hold transparency and which format to pick.

    FAQ

    Is remove.bg shutting down?

Its standalone website closes on December 1, 2026 at 9:00am CET, according to remove.bg's FAQ. Background removal moves into Canva, unused pay-as-you-go credits expire that day, and the self-service API moves to Leonardo.Ai.

Is this a drop-in replacement for the remove.bg API?

No. There is no API here. You add photos by hand, on a web page, and download the results. If your photos arrive from code, an app or a store integration, you need an API, and remove.bg's own page points API users to Leonardo.Ai.

Will the cut-outs look the same as remove.bg?

Not exactly. Every remover draws edges a little differently, and hair, fur and glass are where they differ most. Run your hardest photos through the free tier first. The touch-up brush fixes stray edges, and the free plan has no watermark, so you can judge the real files.

Do I need an account or credits?

No account and no credits. Up to 40 photos per batch are free, as many batches as you like. Pro is $29 once, with no subscription, for marketplace sizes, bulk rename and one ZIP per batch.

    Are my photos sent anywhere?

No. The photos are never uploaded to a server, so there is nothing to store or delete afterward. Closing the tab clears them. That is the main difference from any API, which has to receive each image to process it.
